Dear Mr Bracken,

I wish to object to the proposed Parkside Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI), planning application number: P/2006/1296, on the following grounds:

Parkside is Green Belt land and development is contrary to PPG2 and the existing St. Helens Council UDP.
Loss of up to 272 hectares of Green Belt would lead to urban sprawl.
Increased air, noise and light pollution.
Increased congestion on the M6, M62, A580 and other roads, leading to longer journey times.
Increased Parkside SRFI traffic on the A49, A572, A573, A579 and minor roads which would endanger the lives of local residents.
Loss of visual amenity.
Loss of local heritage with the relocation of Grade II listed buildings at Newton Park Farm and Newton Park Barn.
Loss of high grade agricultural land.
Loss of environmental habitat.
Noise and disruption to many thousands of residents living near the West Coast Mainline and Manchester-Liverpool with rail freight running through the night.
The lack of available rail pathways would result in Parkside being inappropriately used as a road freight terminal. On the basis of existing evidence, Parkside does not appear to be a sustainable proposal as a rail freight terminal.
Increased potential for job displacement rather than creation.
More appropriate locations for SRFI and Intermodal terminals need to be considered, both regionally and nationally.
Adverse and disruptive vibration from setting pile foundations during the construction period.
Adverse impact on drainage and watertable.
Above all, the Parkside SRFI development would mean an unprecedented disruption in the quality of living for thousands of local residents.

As a local resident I strongly object to this inappropriate proposal.

W is for Warrington

W is for Warrington, Wolves and wire
Where Pink Ladies are what the women folk hire
The Children for Peace also have their home here
And the work done at St Rocco's deserves a cheer

Beautiful golden gates stand in front of the Town Hall
While stunning gardens flourish down at Walton Hall
Our Bewsey Old Hall is haunted and mysterious
And at Gulliver's World, tots find it hilarious

Escape the rat race, take a walk in the Sankey Valley Park
Another gem to explore is Risley Moss before it gets dark
Or try part of the Trans Pennine Trail or the Cheshire Ring
Fiddler's Ferry is less strenuous if that's more your thing

Shoppers can try Gemini if they want some Swedish flair
Or the place to be, the newly refurbished Golden Square
There is also Birchwood, Culcheth, Lymm and Stockton Heath too
Plenty of places to visit and lots of things to do

You can reach us by road and via three motorways
We have several stations too served by the railways
This is just a taste of what we have in the borough
So get yourself over here, come and explore it thorough

Parkside

There used to be an open cast colliery
Surrounded by significant green belt
But Tory rule saw off it's work force,
Like other industries that did melt.
Now within the oasis remains a foot print,
The damage has already been done
And yes, local employment is needed
But the plans laid down have over run.

They give estimates of heavy goods vehicles
But in reality, the amount, they cannot ascertain;
The rail freight they say, will take danger from our roads
Yet the congestion of the railway, who will maintain?
Imagine the chaos, noise and pollution
If you live along the roads from the motorways
Or if you have a home, with in ear shot of the site
And near the West Coast or Liver-Manc Railways.

A rail freight terminal bigger than the whole town,
Needing its own electricity generating station,
Causing much death to the wild life and green space;
Red is their colour of destruction and desecration.
So much heritage has been lost before,
This is a jewel and a gift that should be saved;
We owe it to our future generations
Whose paths need to be ecologically paved.
